Who should attend? Staff and volunteers who have specialist child protection responsibilities and/or involvement in multiagency safeguarding assessment, planning and responses.

Why should they attend? It is important we have a shared and consistent of understanding of the thresholds for responding to the different needs of children. Equally, local learning has shown it is important we know how to escalate when there are concerns the level of response is not keeping children safe. This training will help participants develop knowledge of the different thresholds for intervention and understanding of local pathways to escalate concerns.

What are the learning objectives? By the end of the course, delegates will:

  • Develop knowledge of the Pan-London Threshold Document and the different levels of need.
  • Develop knowledge of when and how the Threshold Document can be used in practice to enhance multiagency safeguarding practice.
  • Develop skills and confidence in how to apply thresholds in practice using case studies and the threshold document.
  • Develop skills and confidence in critical thinking in relation to risk and concerns.
  • Develop understanding of risk assessment as a dynamic and ongoing process and understand how the Threshold Document can support this.
  • Recognise the common challenges in making the right decisions, and how these can be overcome.
  • Develop the skill to make a good quality children's social care referral.
  • Develop knowledge about how to escalate concerns at a local level.
  • Increase confidence to recognise and challenge safeguarding issues and promote culture of professional challenge
