Who should attend? Staff and volunteers who have specialist child protection responsibilities and/or involvement in multiagency safeguarding assessment, planning and responses.

Why should they attend? National learning has highlighted how practitioners can struggle to recognise signs and indicators of child sexual abuse. The training will help participants to recognise the signs and develop their skills to provide responses which reduce harm to children.

What are the learning objectives? By the end of the course, delegates will:

  • Develop knowledge around the prevalence of abuse.
  • Develop knowledge around the different types of abuse.
  • Develop skills to deliver a compassionate approach, exploring concepts of belief and blame in parents.
  • Develop knowledge of how abusers operate.
  • Develop knowledge of common feelings and behaviours in children.
  • Develop skills to deal with disclosure
  • Develop skills to deliver low-level interventions.

How is the course delivered? This is a free half-day course delivered by Barnardo's TIGER service. The course is in-person only.
