Detail:
Who should attend? Staff and volunteers who have specialist child protection responsibilities and/or involvement in multiagency safeguarding assessment, planning and responses.
Why should they attend? Learning from local reviews indicates a need for more consistent trauma-informed approaches to children. This training will help participants develop understanding of how trauma can manifest in the behaviours of children and their families, and how to support these needs without locating blame in children.
What are the learning objectives?
By the end of the course, delegates will:
- Develop understanding of the meaning of psychological trauma and the biological impacts.
- Develop knowledge of how traumatic experiences can affect identity, world view and behaviour.
- Develop understanding of how, even violent behaviour, can be an expression of trauma and understood as communication.
- Build skills to manage the relationship between trauma and safeguarding practice.
- Develop confidence to support and respond to traumatised children and their families.
- Reflect upon personal and professional impact of trauma-informed practice and the importance of wellbeing.
